Botswana: The recruits of Class 1 of 2023/2024 in Botswana Police Service have donated photocopiers, wheel chairs for disabled, blankets and sanitary pads to people in need. The officials have shared that the donated items were valued at over P 300 000.00.

The donation was made at Botswana Police College, Otse on Thursday and was focussed towards several different sections of beneficiaries. The officials of the Botswana Police Service have shared some images from the donation initiative

The donation was made through contributions from recruits. The recruits said that after a full year of training, they  found it fit to give back to the community.

According to the officers, the donation was a part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. The items were handed over to the beneficiaries by the Minister of Defence and Security, Thomas Kagiso Mmusi.

The Minister also delivered a brief address at the donation event. He said, Botswana Police Service (BPS) has taken it upon itself to commit to the National Vision 2036 pillar of Human and Social Development.

Thee said pillar recognises the importance of social inclusion and equality as a key component in achieving Prosperity for all by 2036.

He further stated that the right to education is universally recognised by the community of nations. He also added that all nations have an obligation to provide education to their citizenry, hence the donation

Minister Mmusi also said, “The girl child, who especially comes from an under-privileged family has the right to enjoy the same comfort as her more privileged counterpart, thus the BPS’ commitment to ensure that the girl child is not left behind and has led them to buying sanitary pads for them.”

Defence Minister also thanked the officers for their sterling job in making sure that the communities are well cared for. The communities which received the donation were responsible for supporting and accommodating the officers during training.

Three photocopiers were donated to Primary schools in Otse, Mojadife and Ntlhantlhe villages. Furthermore, ten wheel chairs were given to disabled persons in Moshupa District.

The officers donated 120 blankets for home-based care and identified under-privileged families in Ramotswa District. Finally, 99 boxes of sanitary pads  were given to the Moeding Senior Secondary School, Baratani and Mogobane Junior Secondary Schools.
