A classroom teacher from the Rivers State area, Tomye Boma Erekosima, teamed up with some of his students to reconstruct the school’s football pitch. The individual is employed at Kalabari National College Buguma. He shared the story on his social media account and applauded the students for volunteering.
Notably, some sections of the school’s football field were damaged after the pitch was used to conduct the funeral of Late Chief O.K Isokariari. Some part of the field sunk due to the tractors used to erect and remove the funeral setup. Afterwards, the late chief’s family brought some sand to fill those damaged sections of the field.
Unfortunately, the sand they brought wasn’t enough as the damages were too large. After the things the family brought with themselves were exhausted, they left.
The Bugama based teachers and school authorities waited to see if the family would bring some more sand, but there was no luck as they did not see the family return. According to the update the teacher shared, it soon became obvious that the family will not come again with sand.
Thus, Tomye Boma Erekosima and his students decided to fix the field on their own.
Erekosima shared that the students and he could no longer endure the long absence of football. Accordingly, they volunteered to bring wheelbarrows, empty cement bags and shovels from their houses.
The students used the equipment to scrape grit of sand from the interlocked areas within the school premises. They used the sand to fill those deep holes on the pitch caused by those heavy tractors.
However, the sands on the school floor were not enough. Meanwhile, the boys were so eagerly determined to get the pitch back to use. Thus, the youngsters worked hard to gather the sand they needed until they had the desired volume.
Eventually, the team could get the work done and repair the pitch for use. It took them three days to get the pitch ready for use. The teacher, Tomye Erekosima, applauded his students and thanked them for volunteering their services
