Bulawayo, Zimbabwe: The Police department of Bulawayo city has advised the residents to register their houses and properties in the office before travelling or planning to go somewhere out of station.
The police force is concerned as the cases of housebreaking and robbery are increasing frequently. They advised the same so that they can constantly monitor the properties to reduce such cases.
The Bulawayo Provincial Police spokesperson – Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, expressed at a Press conference which was held last week that during the festive season, many people would be travelling for holidays, leaving their homes without anyone to look after or monitor them.
“We thus encourage the residents to come forward to the police station and register their houses to be guarded by the police during their absence,” she added.
Assistant Inspector Msebele also said that the police will be patrolling at the location with the registered houses and will keep on checking that there should be no signs of break-in.
She also asked the people who are going to travel for the holidays, to do not post anything on social media regarding their whereabouts as criminals can track and take chances as they will get to about the absence of the person who is travelling.
While telling this Msebele says, “Criminals can follow our lives on social media, let us desist from posting our whereabouts and as we go for the holidays. She requested people to tell their neighbours so that they are aware of our whereabouts and also look out for our homes on our behalf.
The spokesperson of the police department emphasised the need for drivers to exercise caution on the roads to reduce accidents and incidents of road carnage.
Many social media users have reacted to it and shared their responses:
A user Muchenjeri Solomon asked, “How much is it to register?”
Another user, Praise Fatima Nota, appreciated the idea and wrote, “It’s a good idea though.”
Justine Nkomanzana expressed, “that’s a great news”
