Zambia: A family of five in Naliele Royal village in Kaoma District in Western Province have lost their home to a fire accident. The fire broke out in a nearby bush and swept through the house, which resulted in damage to the family’s property.

The officials have shared that the family has lost property worth more than worked has been left homeless. Further, the family has also informed the officials that they have lost property worth thousands of kwachas.

The officials have shared that the incident happened in the afternoon hours of Sunday, at approximately 14:00 Hours.

The victim, whose house was gutted in the fire, Brenda Mbambi spoke to the media regarding the accident. She gave the media person the details of the accident and urged the members of the community to support her.

According to Mbambi, two of her were destroyed by a bush fire. At the time she was attending a funeral at a neighbouring village. The family has been left without a roof over their head and the children’s school books, uniforms and other necessities have also burnt down in the fire.

The victim revealed that the property damage amounted to approximately K6,000. After the accident, the children are also not able to attend school, as all their belongings were destroyed in the fire.

“I was away attending a funeral when the fire broke out around 2 pm. By the time I returned, my house was completely burnt down, including all my belongings and my children’s school requirements,” Mbambi said.

The family has claimed that they will not be able to manage the significant property damage that thee fire has caused. Mbambi has since appealed to well-wishers to help the family with food stuff and clothing during this difficult time.

Kaoma District Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) Officer, Nicole Silembe said her office has not yet received an official report on the incident. On thee other hand, increased heat and dryness has led to increased risk of bush fires.

The authorities have urged the people to remain cautious during this time.
