Cape Town: The 13th Kapstadt CUP finally comes to its conclusion on Sunday, October 06, 2024. The soccer tournament ended after five days. The premier grassroots football festival began in the Mother City at four venues from October 02, 2024.
The 2024 edition of the Kapstadt CUP was a major showcase of skills, passion and a display of comradery by 128 teams from 32 clubs. Collectively, the clubs brought with them 1,780 players in nine age groups from Under-7 to Under-23.
It consisted of various participants from different genres. There were 10 travelling clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns (Tswhane), Mangaung Metro Football Academy (Bloemfontein), Uptown FC (Upington), Sportcolli (Mbombela), Priory Shamrocks (Port Elizabeth), Warriors FC (Durban), Sport Klub Windhoek (both Namibia), Napoli and River Galaxy (both Gauteng) and Deutsche Turn Sport Verain.
This happened for the first time in the 14-year history of the tournament that the Kapstadt CUP featured a U-23 competition.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safet and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that the Kapstadt CUP, for more than a decade, has been a wonderful tournament that provided the young football stars with a platform to showcase their talent. It also provided them with an opportunity to be a part of the greater community.
Furthermore, it was delightful to see so many youngsters from all over the Cape Town, South Africa and Namibia, who has come together for the love of sport. Partnership of the City of Cape Town with the Kapstadt CUP is a great affirmation of the commitment to support the youth to reach their full potential.
The support is provided by funding them, or by providing playing facilities. The City of Cape Town remains committed to contributing to the development of young people, especially through sport.
Notably, the Kapstadt CUP 2024 was held at the Hartleyvale Stadium in Observatory, Green Point Shared Fields, mutual Park in pinelands and St. George’s Grammer School in Mowbray. The tournament saw champions from different age-groups such as from U7 its Green Point Salesian Football Club; U8 its Cape Town Galaxy; U9 its Bothasig AFC; U10 its Hout Bay United FC; U11 its Kapstadt FC; U12 its Mamelodi Sundowns; U14 its also Mamelodi Sundowns; U16 its Cape Town Spurs and U23 Eagles Performance Academy won the final match.
