Cape Town: The City observed 3rd ECD Indaba at the Cape Town Civic Centre (CTCC). Where hundreds of Early Childhood Development operators, along with government representatives and stakeholders gathered at the event.
Reportedly, the event focused on helping ECD operators to navigate the pathway. This aligns to compliance through support, training, funding opportunities and guidance on safety, health, planning and environmental requirements.
The City of Cape Town also highlighted ongoing support programmes that included roadshows, compliance drives and Development Cost Charge exemptions that have already helped several ECD centres across Cape Town move closer to compliance.

Considering the event, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Francine Higham stated that hundreds of ECD practitioners gathered at the Cape Town Civic Centre for the City of Cape Town’s 3rd ECD Indaba.
“These engagements give operators access to practical guidance, City services, compliance support and resources to help create safer and more sustainable ECD centres,” added Higham.
As Child Protection Week begins, they also recognise the critical role that ECD practitioners play in protecting the youngest residents. ECD centres are often the first places where signs that something is wrong are noticed. Practitioners are often the first to step in with care, support and protection.
Cllr Higham said that building safer communities starts with supporting the people who care for children and help in creating safe, nurturing spaces where every child can learn, grow and thrive.
