Cape Town gears up for Safety and Security Career Expo

The visitors who will be attending the event at the Lentegeur Civic Centre will have their pick of departments to interrogate about what it takes to join the ranks.

Cape Town: The Safety and Security Directorate of a career expo that will feature the various departments will take place in Mitchells Plain on March 20, 2024. The prospective jobseekers and learners will be offered the opportunity to learn more about the various career options within the Directorate.

Reportedly, the departments that come in Safety and Security are no strangers to career expos, but this will be for the first time that all of them will be participating in a single event.

Visitors to the event at the Lentegeur Civic Centre will have their pick of departments to interview about what it takes to join the ranks. The day will also include various displays and exhibitions.

As per the sources, the selected departments include Metro Police, Law Enforcement Department, the Traffic Services, Fire & Rescue, Disaster Risk Management (DRM), the Public Emergency Communication Centre (PECC) and Events.

Considering this, the ward Councillor – Avron Plaatjies has encouraged the community to attend the expo. The safety and security directorate is a key component of City’s service delivery model.

Plaatjies said, “We pride ourselves in excellence and we are committed to serve and protect the residents of Cape Town.’

“We are known especially for pushing the boundaries and going beyond the call of duty. If you are passionate about serving, please do not miss our career exhibition at Lentegeur Civic Centre,” added Councillor Plaatjies

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that the Safety and Security Directorate has grown steadily, in the past decade, with the ongoing investments to promote the public safety.

Smith said, “We also want to generate an interest among the youth in the work that we’re doing, because they are our future constables, superintendants and firefighters. They are also the heroes that will continue the fight for a safer city.”

The career expos are an opportunity to tap into the experience of people working in different fields, for a first-hand account of what it takes to do their job. It can be related to their academic qualifications or the type of character or personality required.

“We look forward to welcome learners but also the broader community to the first of what we intend to be a series of career expos in different parts of the city,” said JP Smith.
