City of Cape Town has officially announced the dates for DStv Kyknet & Kie Mitchell’s Plain Festival. It is back and ready to bring the biggest joy in the town.
The event will be held on Nov 29th, 30th and Dec 1st at Westridge Gardens around 9:00 a.m. The city asked the residents to be prepared for days filled with lots of fun activities that will include music, dancing, food and fun for the whole family.
Reportedly, the DStv Kyknet & Kie Mitchell’s Plain Festival will welcome more than 50 local artists and dance crews, who will entertain the visitors all weekend. The officials asked all to bring their family and friends along with them and celebrate the fun festival.
Mitchell’s Plain Festival
The event is organized by Cycle of Life, a local sole proprietor. It was launched in the year 2000 with the main objective to host community-based events that aim at heightening awareness around issues that affect the locals and surrounding communities.
The business is headed by a well-known community activist – Rozario Brown, with experience of more than 20 years in event management, also in public relations, advertising and communication.
Furthermore, Brown is all well suited to take Mitchell’s Plain to greater heights.
The first ever Mitchell’s Plain festival was staged in the year 2009 to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Mitchell’s Plain. It is a community with an estimated population of 700,000 people.
Notably, the inaugural event was attended by the President – Jacob Zuma, Premier – Helen Zille and various other cabinet ministers such as Director General and more than 15, 000 people.
Over R4 million worth of free and favourable publicity has been generated for Mitchell’s Plain as a result of the event. It also created 200 part time employment opportunities for people from Mitchell’s Plain and Khayelitsha, Cape Town.
Although Mitchell’s Plain is a development area designed by the apartheid government. The people living there rose to the challenges they were facing and made the township a vibrant and exciting place to live, work and play.
