Cape Town: A resident Doris Barrish Johnson has turned 100 on Monday, Jan 13, 2025. Deputy Mayor of City of Cape Town – Alderman Eddie Andrews along with Zahid Badroodien and Ashwin Jansen visited her place.
The City of Cape Town Ministers congratulated her on her centenary birthday by visiting her place in Athlone and heard her story as a Cape Town resident.
Aunty Doris has lived an interesting life all over Cape Town. She stayed for 30 years at the Rainbow Lane Pensioners Cottage in Silvertown and later moved in with her son and daughter-in-law in Athlone.
According to Aunt Doris, her favourite places in Cape Town includes St. Georges Cathedral and the Company’s Garden. She also loved taking her children to Kalk Bay Beach by train to visit Camps Bay Beach.
Her children also told that she loved making rotis and taught everyone how to make them, to all people who were interested in learning that. Doris even sold some of her popular rotis at the age of 92, hanging up her apron.
While expressing her happiness Aunt Doris explained her secret to long life and said that the secret to her long life is smiling every day and doing good deeds for others. She simply said, “Do something good for someone.”
As per the sources, Aunty Doris has two sons and one has passed away, two daughters-in-law, seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Deputy Mayor Eddie Andrews also shared the pictures from her hundredth birthday celebration and expressed his joy by posting a long note with it that explained who Aunt Doris Barrish Johnson is and how she spent her 100 years of life in Cape Town.
It is an honour in itself to live a beautiful life and survive this long gaining interesting experiences. In this era where everyone is being diagnosed with some serious diseases like cancer, diabetes or respiratory problems, Doris is living a happy and healthy life.
