Cape Town: Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth of the City of Cape Town – Alderman James Vos proudly announced the filling up of more than 10,427 positions in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector. He declared the creation of new job opportunities during the past financial year, from April 2024 to March 2025.
This milestone welcomed a major boost for the economy of Cape Town and a clear sign for the economic growth strategy of the city that delivered tangible results.
James Vos described that it is all about prioritizing workforce development, preparing more Capetonians to be job-ready for the rapidly growing sector. Through the Economic Development and Investment Department, the City of Cape Town funds CapeBPO as an industry-focused business partner.
Considering the initiative like the CapeBPO Academy in Athlone, they are fostering strong, workable partnerships with the private sector to ensure that they can train continuously. Vos further added that when global companies are selecting destinations for their operations.

Vos claimed that Cape Town stands out as they offer world-class connectivity and infrastructure, along with a skilled and prepared workforce. It is because they focus on getting the basics right, for a city that is a great place to live has now become a great place to invest.
Although, BPO sector has become one of the biggest economic success stories of Cape Town. In the previous financial year alone, the sector made an addition of R3.6 billion in new FDI to the local economy and industry-wide, that contributes around R24 billion annually to the Western Cape economy, which matches the impact of the tourism sector.
CapeBPO has implemented a variety of initiatives to prepare youth for future careers in the industry. The foremost example is a Training School Programme designed for Grade-12 learners. The initiative allows young people to gain first-hand experience in how the BPO industry works, by giving them a solid foundation and easing their transition into further training and ultimately into full-time employment in the dynamic and growing sector.
Alderman Vos further expressed that he thoroughly enjoyed visiting BPO operations across Cape Town, sitting in boardrooms, planning with operators on how they attract more companies and then stepping onto the floor and feeling the energy of newly employed Capetonians.
It is a powerful reminder of why they do this work as every one of these jobs represents a payslip, with the dignity of work, and the ability for someone to contribute a lot of meaningful things, that will help them in their households, community and the broader economy.

CEO of CapeBPO – Clayton Williams also gave is statement over this initiative and said that the continued growth and success of the BPO sector within Cape Town is a testament to what is possible if the public and private sector comes together to work towards a common goal.
The goal is to create meaningful careers at scale by delivering world-class service to international customers. Moreover, the Western Cape Government and CapeBPO as a strategic partner to the City of Cape Town is privileged to act as the conduit between the public and private sectors.
Following this, CEO Williams said that they are most grateful to every operator that they represent within the ecosystem for each job and gainful employment opportunity that they provide to those who need it the most, especially the unemployed youth that become the most prized asset. They spoke on behalf of the entire industry and thanked the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Government for their continued funding and support.
Alderman James Vos further stated that when he engages with international companies, he will always highlight that Capetonians bring something unique to the table, with solution-driven talent and empathy. These are the traits that are essential in the BPO environment and form a critical part of the economic value proposition. The people of Cape Town have a competitive advantage of CapeBPO.
