Zambia: The United Party for National Development-UPND in the Central Province has called on the people of Zambia to give the UPND government, under the leadership of Hakainded Hichilema chance to deliver his campaign promises.

Speaking at the party’s press briefing in Kabwe yesterday, Central Province UPND acting provincial Chairperson Edward Munkombwe said Zambians were yet to see more development under the UPND government. He cited the 20% NAPSA partial withdrawal, the increased CDF, employment of teachers and nurses as indicators that the New Dawn government is heading in the right direction in bringing development to the citizens.

Speaking at the same event, Mary Changwe, who is a provincial party trustee, defended the use of the ‘UKUPONONA’ word by President Hakainde Hichilema recently saying that the word ‘ukuponona’ was not an insult but a word he learnt from PF when he was in opposition. She said President Hakainde Hichilema was a decent man of integrity who had been taught to insult by the opposition.

And Ms Changwe said President Hichilema had united the country by embracing all tribes and taking development to all parts of the country. She said unlike in the previous government, tribalism is now a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, Janet Sitali, who is UPND’s Central Province Chairlady, has assured President Hichima support of women from the province. She said many women now have access to CDF social cash transfers and that their children were being empowered through free education.

Sitali expressed disappointment to the opposition women who were fighting the speaker of the national assembly who is the first woman speaker of the national assembly.

James Ntalasha, who is the party’s provincial youth chairman, has called on the youths to defend the party and take advantage of the opportunities that the government has provided through CDF and those under the Ministry of Sports, youth and Child Development, such skills training internships.
