Zambia: Chama District in Eastern Province has joined the global community in commemorating the World Diabetes Day. The day is observed every year with the aim of promoting exchange of information in relation with the disease.
Thee international commemoration of World Diabetes day, hosted on November 14 has been dedicated to raising awareness about the disease and promoting prevention strategies. The people all over the world can come together and gather more accurate information about the diseases.
People who are struggling with the disease, as well as people who have been responsible for caring for any patients understand the significance of the world diabetes day commemoration. Diabetes can present in various ways and can also affect various age groups of people in any part of the world.
Recently, world health stakeholders have also seen a spike in the number of diabetes cases among children. The commemoration in the chama district was attended by several healthcare stakeholders
Acting Chama District Commissioner, Harrison Phiri graced the occasion under the theme “Empowering Global Health”. The leaders have shared that the world diabetes day seeks to promote better healthcare facilities and more astute measures to support patients struggling with the diseas
District Commissioner Phiri emphasised that the theme highlighted the importance of ensuring that everyone regardless of their location or socio-economic status should have access to essential care and information.
He added that the government is committed to combating the rise of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, which are closely linked to lifestyle choices and urbanisation.
Acting Chama District Health Director, Chewe Nsululu, called on the general public not to be silent over the disease but to ensure they seek medical help each time they suspect symptoms of the disease.
And the traditional leadership spoke about the need to increase access to diabetes care, especially in rural and underserved areas. The people living in the district have also lauded the administration for organizing this event to commemorate this awareness event.
