Chief Kaputa calls on govt to support agriculture sector

Zambia: Chief Kaputa of the Tabwa people of Kaputa District of Northern Province has asked the government of Zambia to support the chiefdom. The chief has started a plan to establish a 500 hectares agricultural scheme in the area.

The agriculture has been one of the major sectors for the economy of the region. The development of the sector, according to the traditional Leader of Kaputa District will be beneficial for the people of the country.

The traditional leader says the agricultural scheme can help to improve agricultural production in the district. The leader of the chiefdom has been working for the benefit of the people of the country.

He says Kaputa District has vast land which can be used for agricultural purposes. The chief added that it will also help realise the agriculture potential of the area.

Chief Kaputa also appealed to the area Member of Parliament, Elvis Nkandu to support his ambition for the benefit of the community. He made these remarks while he was paying a courtesy call on him to help finish payment for agricultural equipment acquired on loan.

He said three cooperatives acquired agricultural equipment to help them increase their output.

Meanwhile, the member of Parliament, Nkandu who is also Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts said it is the desire of government to see agriculture in Kaputa improved.

Member of Parliament Nkandu said plans are underway to establish large-scale agricultural schemes to help farmers increase their output.

The lawmaker added that government also plans to put up a trades training center in Kaputa which he said will help to engage youths who do not have anything to do.

Meanwhile, Kaputa District Commissioner, Cosmas Mwaya said the district is poised to become the provincial food basket for the province.

Mwaya said he was impressed with agricultural production by farmers in the last farming season. He has asked the people engaged in the sector to work for the benefit of the region.
