Zambia: A Chirundu District based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Children’s Joy Village Foundation has committed support to the less privileged. The organization wants to continue supplementing the government’s efforts in supporting the people.
Foundation Director, Moses Chilufya, said Chirundu is one of the 84 districts that was adversely affected by the El-Nino weather phenomenon induced drought. He stated that there is an urgent need for NGOs and other organisations to help the government.
The government needs additional support in meeting the basic needs of the people affected by the people. Children’s Joy Village director Chilufya praised the government for initiating various social protection programmes in a bid to cushion the vulnerable people.
He observed that the government alone cannot manage to meet all the basic needs of the vulnerable people. Accordingly, other support groups and non government organizations need to supplement the government’s efforts.
Chilufya explained that his organisation will continue to mobilise enough resources to help more people. He acknowledged that the district has not been spared from the adverse effects of the drought.
Chilufya donated assorted foodstuffs to targeted beneficiaries in Chirundu West Ward. Further, he called on people to be sympathetic by showing compassion to the less privileged in society.
He pointed out that his organisation has continued to demonstrate that it is a real partner to the government as evident by its similar donations to selected beneficiaries from Ng’ombe Ilede, Mtendere Mission General Hospital’s Mothers’ Shelter, Munzi Wa Moyo Orphanage and other areas in the district.
Earlier, a visibly happy recipient, Natasha Musonda, expressed happiness to Children’s Joy Village Foundation for helping some vulnerable families in society.
Musonda described the gesture as heartwarming, she claimed that it came at a time when most vulnerable households are experiencing difficulties in meeting their daily needs. She noted that the donation of assorted food items will go a long way in helping vulnerable households meet their daily needs in the short term.
Another recipient, Caroline Phasi, equally described the donation as unprecedented and urged more NGOs to emulate the foundation in helping the less privileged in society.
Phasi added that the provision of assorted foodstuffs will help the beneficiaries especially those struggling to access the cheaper Zambia National Service (ZNS) and Zambia Correctional Services mealie meal to a decent livelihood in a couple of weeks.
