City of Cape Town is helped parents to register their children for school by using SmartCape Stations at local libraries. The SmartCape team from its Information Systems and Technology Department has partnered with the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) and City library staff to assist parents with their online school applications during the school registration period.
Reportedly, the SmartCape stations were set up at various libraries across the metro this week. Every year, many parents visit libraries to register their children for school admissions.
However, many parents also lack computer literacy and require assistance with online applications. The city has recognised this need and was able to assist parents this week in SmartCape stations at identified libraries and helped parents to navigate the WCED website to make successful online applications.

Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Corporate Services – Alderman Theresa Uys said that she is grateful that the SmartCape team took the initiative to coordinate this project and facilitate access to the SmartCape Stations ate the various libraries.
Uys mentioned that together with the WCED staff members and the City of Cape Town librarian assistants, they ensured that each parent was assisted and these registration days ran smoothly.
Moreover, the SmartCape Team of the City of Cape Town and WCED staff assisted the parents on Thursday, March 13, 2025 with online school applications at the Kuyasa Library in Khayelitsha. The Kuyasa Library has been equipped with 49 SmartCape stations, out of which 25 stations are dedicated for registrations.
Alderman Theresa Uys confirmed that the City of Cape Town team is committed to make this project a success and can assure that these SmartCape stations and the assistance offered will be made available to the residents again in August 2025 when it will be time for the next round of applications.
The City of Cape Town assisted the parents of the town for the welfare of their children and to bring out the best in them, so that they can excel in life and have a bright future ahead.
