City of Cape Town is calling all city-based entrepreneurs to apply for a scale-up programme. The entrepreneurs should present themselves with a product or service that is innovative and could positively impact the community and beyond.
Reportedly, the interested entrepreneurs of the Cape Town can get their applications in under the Orange Corners’ Designs, for a 12-month scale-up programme that will be implemented by the city funded Craft+Design Institute (CDI).
As per the sources, the project is targeting the local businesses that centre one or more of the United Nation’s (UN) 17 Sustainable Development Goals (commonly known as SDGs). This project will majorly focus on reducing poverty.
However, it will also concentrate on growing the inclusive economic growth and creating more job opportunities.

Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth and Tourism – Alderman James Vos stated that the Integrated Development Plan by the City of Cape Town aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Alderman Vos also enlightened that the Orange Corners’ Designs is the ideal initiative for government to support this project. He further highlighted that the focused approach of the 12-month scale-up programme will include various support.
Moreover, it will also include various support and upskilling mechanisms such as workshops, mentorship and business development tools.
In addition to it, the selected participants can also become eligible for prototyping grants and business loans of up to R1,000,000 from the Orange Corners Innovation Fund (OCIF), stated James Vos.

Note that submission of the formal applications will close on Thursday, Feb 20, 2025. Referring to this, the residents and interested Cape Town-based entrepreneurs are encouraged to apply and submit their forms by the due date.
