Cape Town: The City of Cape Town will be hosting the 2024 Partnership for Healthy Cities Summit from Tuesday, March 05, 2024, to Thursday, March 07, 2024.

Cape Town will be proudly working with the Bloomberg Philanthropies, World Health Organization and Vital Strategies. As the city is a proud member of the global network, it will be working to advance public health strategies to save lives.

Reportedly, the Summit will include the Public Health Leaders from more than 50 cities across the globe to discuss how it can be strengthened individually and collectively in response to the non-communicable diseases (NDCs) and the injuries.

As per the sources, the Mayor of Cape Town – Geordin Hill-Lewis will also join the event that will include the conversation in relation to leadership and progress in Cape Town to improve public health.

By the year 2050, 68 per cent of the world’s population is projected to live in cities. The Urban centres are positioned well to transform the fight against non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and injuries.

The Non-communicable diseases include heart diseases, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases and injuries which are mainly responsible for over 80% of all deaths worldwide.

The majority of the world’s population is now living in urban settings and cities. The leaders are positioned to transform the fight against NCDs and the injuries that reduce preventable deaths and implement policies that are proven to prevent the exposure to risk factors.

More than half of the global population lives in urban places and their leaders play a great role in developing, implementing and enforcing policies to create healthy environments for healthy population.

The NCDs and injuries, every year kills over 46 million people globally. The Partnership for Healthy Cities is a global network of 73 cities whose leaders might have been dedicated to prevent non-communicable diseases, including cancer, diabetes, heart disease and chronic lung disease and injuries through proven interventions.

Considering the partnership, every city selects one of 14 interventions that are proven to prevent NDCs and injuries.
