Zambia: The elder population of the country, including Collen Munachonga, has expressed their displeasure on the social media content that is doing rounds on the internet. The situation was highlighted by the elderly population of the country.
The elders believe that the content that is currently accessible to the people on the internet can be harmful to youngsters. One of the elders, who has been identified as A Seventh Day Adventist Church member, Collen Munachonga came forward to comment on the situation.
Munchonga shared that he believes social media is full of Western content. This has eroded cultural Heritage values among young people. Many elders of Zambia have shared their disapproval of the Westernization of the youngsters.
The elder bemoaned the loss of respect for elderly people in society. He claimed that this is because of foreign trends on social media.
He further stated that the places of worship and funerals are no longer respected.
He further added that if this continues the generations to come will completely lose its cultural morals. With this thought, the elder took the opportunity to urge the public to utilize social media productively.
The elder’s sentiments were also mirrored by many members of the society. A resident of Chandamali Compound, Audius Mwangala also expressed his views on the situation. He claimed that social media promotes immorality because most of the content is not restricted.
Mwangala revealed that children nowadays are exposed to viewing sensitive content on social media thereby affecting their behavior. He has since urged parents to take a keen interest in what their children do on various media platforms.
The Seventh Day Adventist Church elder also found support in the social media comments. One of the social media users agreed with the elder, saying:
Correct my elder, the devil has many ways to trap the people. The church must do something to our youths also parents must pray for their children.
Otherwise, this Western lifestyle will even affect the way of worshipping, let not our young ones fulfill the prophecy as we are living in the last days. Prayers are needed.
