Zimbabwe: Victoria Falls multi-purpose cricket stadium is on course now. The construction of the 10,000-seater ‘Mosi oa Tunya’ International Cricket Stadium is progressing well, with the facility expected to transform the city into a regional sporting hub.

Reportedly, the development comes as good news as Zimbabwe is ready to co-host the 2026 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. The matches will be hosted alongside Namibia and with that, the 2027 men’s Cricket World Cup with South Africa and Namibia.

The Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium is one of the key elements of a wider infrastructure investment plan by Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC).

Managing Director for Zimbabwe Cricket – Givemore Makoni said that the work is progressing very well, a lot of earthmoving has been happening during the construction. The levelling of the academy pitch and the main pitch is also progressing very well.

Giving the details of the construction work he added, “The facility has been fenced and a site establishment has also been done. Boreholes have been drilled and a water reservoir has also been established.”

“There is good progress report received so far, and we are impressed by what is on the ground,” stated the Managing Director Makoni.

Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency (ZINGSA), which is a parastatal under the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development is the main contractor.

The stadium, which will predominantly host the cricket matches, is being designed as a multi-purpose facility stadium to also host the other sporting events.

The cricket stadium is a flagship for the Masuwe Special Economic Zone in Victoria Falls, and is also expected to be a catalyst for tourism and economic growth.

Other multi-million-dollar towering projects under the Masuwe Special Economic Zone, includes a convention centre with associated hotels and villas, a golf estate, a medical tourism facility, a commercial central business district, an international service centre and also the high-end residential units, which might add further in future.
