Zambia: A 13-year-old girl from Meheba in Kalumbila District has been allegedly defiled by a local businessman. The suspect has been identified as Crebby Kauta. The 32-year-old is a businessman in the Holly family market area.
The incident was reported to the province police force by the mother of the victim. The victim suffered painful genitals and general body pains after the assault.
The commanding officer of the North Western Province Officer Dennis Moola said Zambia Police form 32 has since been issued. The officers have also opened a docket.
He said the facts of the matter are that on 11th January 2024, at around 17:00 hours, the victim was sent to Holly’s family market by her mother to buy some eggs.
Upon reaching the market, she entered a certain shop but the seller did not have a change of K100.00 she had to pay for the eggs.
That is how she was advised to go to the next shop of the suspect to get the change that she was owed.
Commanding Officer Moola said upon entering the said shop, she requested change from the suspect whom she found selling.
“However, she was told to wait as he was busy attending to other customers, ” he said.
He said after his customers left, he decided to lock up the shop and then pushed the victim on the ground.
“He then forced himself on her and started having sexual intercourse with her whilst she was shouting for help.
“Fortunately, someone came and started knocking at the door and when the suspect heard that he stopped,” said the commanding officer.
He said later the suspect opened the door and the victim ran away.
Upon returning to her home, the victim informed her mother about her traumatising experience and was later taken to Holly Family Clinic for examination.
The matter was then reported to the police, who soon after investigations apprehended and detained the culprit.
The officials will be presenting the culprit to the court for a hearing.
