Malawi: Civil Society Network on Climate Change (CISONECC) donated a motorcycle to Lilongwe District to allow them to operate smoothly within the community Council for easing their operations. The donors believe that their support to the district council will help them ease mobility.

They can thus carry on the monitoring of the projects that are implemented in the district. The donation received from the organization will help develop the community.

CISONECC’s National Coordinator, Julius Ng’oma spoke at the handover ceremony of the bicycles. The event was hosted on Wednesday in Lilongwe, where the organizer stakeholderds spoke about the significance of the assistance.

According to them, since they started implementing their projects in the district, they have never seen officers monitoring them. Accordingly, the organization understood the need of the hour and donated.

“During our project implementation, we noted that transport was a big challenge at the Council for the Environmental officers” the national coordinator noted. “They were not able to constantly monitor  the various projects that are being implemented in the district.”

“However, the motorcycle will not only be used to monitor our projects, but all the activities that are implemented in the district,” he added.

The district administration accordingly thanked the Civil Society Network on Climate Change for their donation. District Commissioner for Lilongwe Dr. Lawford Palani delivered a brief address while receiving the motorcycle. He thanked CISONNECC for the donation, saying that it would enable the officers to carry out their duties effectively and efficiently.

The District Commissioner noted that Transportation has been a challenge at the Lilongwe District council. He reasoned that many officers do not have adequate vehicles.

The official believes that this motorbike will help us in filling the gap. Therefore, this gesture is a true reflection of a good relationship between the district council and the CISONECC,” he noted.

Palani appealed other organizations to involve the Council at all levels and replicate the gesture CISONECC has done. He has since urged the officers to put the motorcycle in good use and have sense of ownership so that it serves the intended purpose.

CISONECC is implementing a project known as Promoting Equitable Access to Clean Energy (PEACE) which is aimed at ensuring that citizens and civil society organizations are better informed and empowered to advocate and strengthening environment for equitable access to clean energy in the country.
