South Africa: Capricorn District Municipality continues to listen to the people. Today CDM held Council Imbizo at De Villiers dale Ga-Mojela in Blouberg Local Municipality.
The community of Blouberg were afforded an opportunity to speak to their leaders led by the Executive Mayor, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo and the Mayor of Blouberg, Cllr Maria Thamaga and their collective leadership.
All 22 wards raised service delivery challenges ranging from water, sanitation, electricity, health, education, etc. Wards were represented by nominated members from the wards in Blouberg Local Municipality to present the challenging issues.
“Here in Blouberg, 80% allocation of budget for water and sanitation projects in the entire Municipality is from Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MiG) for this financial year. The budget for MIG for the entire district is R265 547 Million. Most of these water projects in Blouberg are under construction,” the Executive Mayor, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo, said.
She further mentioned that there are also projects that are funded from the Water Service Infrastructure Grant (WSIG) at the cost of R76.9 Million for the entire district, and 80% of this budget is funding water and sanitation projects in Blouberg.
Most of these funded projects are multiyear projects, and they started in the 2021/2022 financial year.
Others issues that were raised are issues that will be forwarded to sectors departments and parastatals for consideration.
The Imbizo is a programme that is aimed at strengthening community participation spearheaded by the Speaker of Council, Cllr Maseka Pheedi.
