Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit handed over the house to 21 families in Scotts Head. This opportunity has brought new hope for the people who lost their everything during Hurricane Maria.
With this latest handover of the homes, the government has fulfilled its commitment to build resilient communities as ‘One Home One Family’ at a time.
Prime Minister of Dominica said that they must be glad for the people who have received the benefit. He also addressed the concerns regarding the land titles following the claims that beneficiaries have not received the ownership documents.
Skerrit said to the people of Dominica that no government, no minister, no prime minister or president can truly take care of you better than you, as yourself. Title or no title, the homes belong to them.
They have taken it further by giving then the official land titles, so that it truly becomes theirs as an asset that can transform their life. With their land papers in hand, they can go to the bank or credit union and use it as a security and can ask for loan to start a small business.
Labour Party Refuses to leave its people behind – under PM Skerrit’s vision
Tourism Minister Denise Charles-Pemberton said that The Labour Party has made sure that your dream becomes a reality. She said that no government is obligated to build homes for citizens. She highlighted that under the compassionate visionary leadership of the Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, the party refused to leave people of Dominica behind.
Charles-Pemberton said that its government believes that every Dominican deserves a safe, secure and comfortable place to call home. According to the Tourism Minister they have not just gave them a roof but have lifted new standards of living.
She said that they should that it is a new beginning, people of Dominica should celebrate their homes, peace of mind and should also feel relieved that now their children can finally sleep safe at night.
Part of a larger Housing Project
Homes in Scotts Head form part of a much larger housing project that is going to take place across the country which is funded under the Citizenship by Investment Programme.
Denise Charles further added that about 240 units are under construction. She mentioned about the handing over of 16 new homes to families of Eggleston. She confirmed that this project will also consider handing over of the houses to the people of Woodford Hill, Paix Bouche, Trafalgar and many others, before the end of this year.
CBI programme making climate-resilient homes possible
Denise Charles encouraged the citizens to safeguard the CBI programme to make climate resilient homes possible for families across Dominica. They are seeing the direct results of the benefits, received from the CBI Programme, and because of this they should protect and cherish this programme like a newborn baby.
The CBI programme is transforming the lives of ordinary people. It has lifted people to higher heights. It is getting people out of poverty. It is allowing them to build back more resilient Dominica with new homes that can withstand a category-5 hurricanes.
Considering this, PM Skerrit appealed to the citizens to understand and support the fellow Dominicans for receiving homes through the programme. He said that they should not make any apologies to anybody for being.
He said that they need to improvise the management and accept to pay a little something. They must never make the statements or condemn this policy because they are envious.
