Dominica Meteorological Service has issued a special marine advisory as a strong tropical wave approach. It is expected to affect the nature island from late Sunday, August 24, 2025 to Monday, August 25, 2025. The wave is expected to bring a significant increase in storms and rough seas. It has prompted authorities to issue an orange alert, which signals the occurrence of a highly dangerous marine event or calamity.
According to the marine advisory, the seas are projected to rise up to nine feet (9 ft) along the west coast of Dominica, during the early hours of Monday morning. Climate conditions are anticipated to be even more hazardous on the east coast. The level of seas could reach up to eleven feet (11 ft) in open waters. This will cause serious risks to fisherman, boat operators, and all other marine workers
Important Precautions by Marine Advisory
Reportedly, the Meteorological Service has strongly urged members of the marine community to take immediate precautions. Fishermen and other aquatic or marine workers are advised to secure their vessels, remove equipment from vulnerable areas and avoid venturing out to sea until conditions improve.
The coastal residents, particularly those who are living on the east coast, are encouraged to remain alert and exercise extreme caution as the tropical wave passes through.
Advisory Explains Orange Alert
Dominica advisory further emphasized that an orange alert means that a highly dangerous marine event is expected to occur soon. Therefore, all the sea users are urged to take early action to safeguard lives, property, and equipment.
Considering the alert, residents are reminded that the strong winds and rough seas could pose additional hazards, including coastal flooding, possible damage to vessels, and risks to swimmers and other recreational users of the sea. The primary concern is marine activity, but travelers arriving or departing Dominica via ferries might also expect possible disruptions.
Regular Vigilance by Meteorological Service
As per the sources, the Meteorological Service is closely monitoring the approaching waves and will continue to provide regular updates. Citizens are encouraged to follow official advisories shared by the official authorities and avoid spreading unverified information.
Every year, Dominica faces such highly vulnerable weather conditions, particularly during the peak months of Atlantic Hurricane Season. The authorities continue to share advisories and alerts to ensure the safety and security of the residents.
