Bungoma, Kenya: The Elgone Centre for Education hosted an event to address the problems of rising teenage pregnancies among teen girls. Several vital stakeholders also gathered to look into the progress of the actions that were taken. They also highlighted that the Jilinde Initiative was critical to addressing the problem and empowering teen girls.
The event, presided over by Bungoma County DG Jennifer Mbatiany, agreed to work collectively with partners.
Elgon Centre for Education Kenya CEO Abdulkarim Taraja was recognized as a youth champion for mentorship and a key stakeholder in the fight against ending Teenage Pregnancy.
Taraja called on the community to own up to the fight and support local organizations for local solutions.
He introduced the Jilinde Initiative, funded by USAID Kenya, Kenyatta University, and YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa through the Transformation Fund. This initiative was brought to address issues of teenage Pregnancy and school dropouts in 10 schools in Mt. Elgon.
The Jilide Initiative is taken to reduce school dropouts among girls due to Teenage Pregnancies and early marriages in the slopes of MT Elgon.
Reportedly, The Elgon Team for Education is a Community-based Organisation in Bungoma County, Kenya. The Organisation is committed to offering academic mentorship, support, and training for the life and development of the nation’s youth.
The Organisation has previously held many such events and sessions to address the problem and reduce this cause among teenage girls.
Earlier this month, The partnered organizations and stakeholders hosted an event to track the progress of the Jilinde Initiative & the organization’s capacity to manage resources.
Through the generous and strategic capacity building by the @YALIRLCEA team, the Elgone team has mastered the art of planning & proper documentation.
The team was utterly impressed with the Organisation’s capacity, which lifted the spirit of service & accountability.
Elgon Centre for Education is among the YALI RLC East Africa Alumni Organizations implementing the Jilinde Initiative, a life skills program targeting girls between 10 and 24 on reproductive health.
