Dominica: Energy Minister Dr. Vince Henderson made announcement regarding the installation of the Power Plant in the Roseau Valley which is 90% complete.
During his visit to Laudat, last week Henderson said that they received a report, and a presentation by ‘OMAT’, which is the technical team on the ground, and they informed them that they are 90% complete with the installation of the Power Plant.
He said that there are few items that will be done in the coming weeks, and they are confident that they are on target to have the Plant delivered by the end of the year.
According to Dr. Henderson, the major thing is to ensure that they can begin their testing of the actual Power Plant by October 2025. The testing will take several weeks or about two months, to ensure that everything is up and running well, as they should.
Minister of Energy Dr. Vince Henderson said that the Dominica Geothermal Company has been leading the process in coordinating works with Ormat, Dominica Electricity Services (DOMLEC) and Indian Company – Kalpataru Projects International Development Company.
Together they are preparing the transmission lines i.e. ‘to ensure that everything is synchronized to provide power to the grid by January of next year’.
Henderson further indicated that the route used for the installation and construction of the transmission lines will ensure minimal disruption as it is related to traffic flow.
He further explained that he will see the amount of work that is being done with the installation and construction of the transmission lines and most of those which are being done underground through Trafalgar, Laudat, going right across up throughout Louisville, Silver Lake, coming right across, going up on the St. Aroment back road and now they have started going downwards from St. Aroment, all the way down to the roundabout by the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital, down to Federation Drive then moving across right through to ensure that they can get the power to Fond Cole.
The Energy Minister further continued that they have taken a route that they have as little disruption as possible and to ensure that they maintain the integrity of some roadways that were recently constructed as an example, from Charles Avenue.
Dr. Henderson added that the route will ensure that there will be minimal disruption, and of course, traffic flow, as they are trying their best not to affect that too heavily.
