Earlier, few days ago her masterpiece design BMW 525i Art Car was placed in the Iziko South African Museum and was brought back from NewYork.

The BMW Art Car was launched in 1991 and was culturally making a significance moment in the art world blending African art with contemporary automotive design.

Considering this Mahlangu said, “Painting has always been a part of me. I cannot separate it from myself and neither I want to. I look forward to sharing my practice and long and colourful story with you in my Retrospective Exhibition.”

The Art Car was returned to South Africa after 30 years. The interesting thing about the car is that it changes colour.

The BMW group has presented the next level of colour changing technology with the BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA through the eyes and mind of BMW Art Car artist Dr Esther Mahlangu this past weekend at Frieze LA.

Esther Mahlangu named the car after her first son the Art Car featured Esther’s work across the car’s body, roof and hood, constantly shifting in colours while staying true to Esther’s signature patterns and palette. As a modern homage, NOSTOKANA is reminiscent of Esther’s 1991 BMW Art Car.
