Cape Town: Over 80,000 people will gather on the Grand Parade on Dec 01, 2024 to celebrate the official beginning of the summer with the annual free Festive Lights Switch-On of City of Cape Town.
The theme of the event for the year 2024 is ‘People of Hope’, that offers something for everyone. The artists have lined-up for their performances which will include rising star Carletheia, legends Dr. Victor & the Rasta Rebels, 3 Tons of Fun, Wynand and Cheree Strydom, MORDA, Mafikizolo and many more.
Moreover, the event will be anchored by the comedians Alan Committie and Lunga Tshuka also DJ Caycee who will keep the beats alive throughout the night.
Earlier this month, City of Cape Town hosted a Festive Lights Switch-On Comedy Competition. The top three contestants will join the line-up this Sunday. It is a family focused event and the public is assured that everything is possible and is being done to ensure their safety.
The Safety and Security Directorate of the City of Cape Town will work closely with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and private security agencies.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that the annual Festive lights Switch-On is a highlight from the events calendar of Cape Town.
Smith stated that for the past 55 years, Festive Lights Switch-On event has offered a vibrant blend of live entertainment program and the dazzling spectacle of the festive lights.
He added that this year, will be no different than the previous ones and their priority is to create a safe and more enjoyable environment for everyone. “We urge attendees to respect the rules and co-operate with the event staff. It is important for everyone to ensure that the festivities remain a positive experience all in whole,” said JP Smith.
Notably, special Safety Guidelines have been released by the organizers along with the transport management system rules. The visitors have to abide the rules and regulations for safety while attending the event and parking their vehicles.
