Free State: Service Delivery remains at the centre of the Free State Provincial Government programme.
In an effort to improve service delivery, in particular, livelihoods of communities across the length and breadth of the province, yesterday, on 05 February 2023, Acting MEC for Social Development, Thabo Meeko, received a donation of twenty-five (25) service delivery vehicles from Department of Community Safety Roads and Transport’s Fleet Management, with a whopping one hundred and fifty (150) more vehicles also earmarked for the province.
This donation will immensely improve access to services for many communities. It will also assist the government in its mandate to provide social services to the whole of the province, including the most remote places.
This generous donation, consistent with the Batho Principles, will ensure that services are brought closer to the people.
The Department of Social Development, the frontline defender of the destitute, underprivileged and most vulnerable, such as women and children, will now be adequately capacitated to address many social ills, restore the dignity of many and ultimately confront the scourge of Gender Violence and Femicide which is a thorn in our society.
Fleet Management’s CEO, Themba Tyobeka, was delighted to make this announcement, which follows the Department of Social Development’s request for vehicles. The department first received 14 sedans in response to this request.
Acting MEC for Social Development, MEC Thabo Meeko expressed his gratitude to Transport MEC, Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae in absentia on behalf of the department.
“The festive season once again highlighted the GBV pandemic and its dire repercussions with the many kidnappings, abuse and horrid killings of women and children in our society, these vehicles coupled with dedicated public servants, especially in the form of our Social workers, will be essential in ensuring safer communities in an even shorter space of time. We aim to work hand in hand with the police and the entire Civil society to eradicate the scourge of GBVF and bring all other social services closer to communities.
