Social and Community Development in the Gaborone City Council has recently hosted the graduation ceremony for 9 students. These students were a part of the White City Day Centre.The students are now ready to start their standard 1 at the various primary schools of the district next year .
The graduation ceremony was hosted under the theme ” Go and shine Bright Like a Diamond.” The event was held at the Lions Park resort in Gaborone. The aim of the event was to give children access to more fun.
The district administration acknowledged that some of the kids have no exposure to such activities as some families are financially challenged. Thus they wanted to make sure that the children can have this experience together.
The graduation ceremony was attended by many stakeholders from various offices in the city council. They highlighted the significance of the event for the students and their families. Some of the attendants included:
- Acting Chief Social and Community Development Officer Gofaone Dintwa
- Guest Speaker from Playmates Day Care, Lorato Rammelane
- Parents and family members of the students.
Speaking at the event, Gofaone Dintwa said they are dedicating the day to celebrate the kids as they start their primary level. Dintwa noted that the graduation day marks their first milestone in their career.
She added that it is important to recognise and appreciate the parents for their cooperation in nurturing the kids.
For her part, Guest Speaker from Playmates DayCare Lorato Rammelane said raising a child is not easy. She stressed that it is important to invest in a child’s future through education.
She also said that it is one of the country’s vision to be an informed and educated nation. She further said mindset change starts with a parent hence why it is important to lead by example.
Representing parents of the graduating students, Gasebatho Moremedi appreciated White City primary for nurturing their kids.Ms Moremedi added that there is a huge difference in mental development of their kids.
She concluded by thanking the co-parents of the graduating students to continue working well with the Teachers.
