Botswana: The Gaborone City Council is organizing a talent show for the benefit of their employees. The event was organized with the aim of encouraging the officials to showcase their hobbies and talents.
The programme sought to bridge the gap between the often monotonous professional obligations and after work life. The event sought to highlight the balance between the personal and professional lives of the employees.
The aim of the competition is to allow the employees of the Gaborone City Council to make time for their hobbies. The organization has shared that it is their responsibility to make sure that the employees can take reasonable breaks from their work life.
The organization has shared some images from the competition. The participants showcased the many and unique talents that Gaborone City Council employees possesses.
The event was also a highly successful bonding exercise, The beyond their professional lives. The show which was held Gaborone West Community Hall was also meant to nurture talent and arts in the workplaces.
Safety Health and Environment Coordinator Khumo Maruza said it is important for the employers to ensure a conducive environment that allows employees to showcase their potential and talents. Maruza encouraged fellow employees to treasure their talents as they can be used to earn a living.
She stressed that expressing oneself through different talents can help in relieving stress by keeping busy when they are not on duty.
Maruza further pointed out that the initiative was also used as a fund raising activity for Wellness Committee. The funds were procured for the people through the selling of food and drinks. She said the funds will assist in facilitating and hosting other relevant Wellness related events in the workplace.
Activities of the day included poetry, dancing, choir and solo singing, where participants walked away with different prizes including cash. The members of the community have expressed their appreciation for organization of the talent show by the Gaborone Council Office
