Gaborone city hosts workshop training councilors in new act

The Mayor of Gaborone City, Austin Abraham has applauded training of councilors on the new Public Procurement Act

Botswana: The Mayor of Gaborone City, Austin Abraham has applauded training of councilors on the new Public Procurement Act. The authorities of the City council opened a one-day workshop for the training exercise.

The aim of the workshop was to make the Councilors aware about the provisions of the new Act. In line with this, Mayor Abraham indicated that hosting the workshop was an important part of the human resource development of the country.

The Mayor shared that the workshop is of great significance for Honorable Councilors to have gotten. The initiative equipped them with necessary procurement procedure and all requirements.

He emphasized the need for Councilors to partake in the deliberations as the outcomes of the training play a major role in making future procurement decisions for the council. All the participants of the workshop got the opportunity to expand their respective knowledge bases through the initiative.

Gaborone City Town Clerk Lopang Pule also spoke about the significance of the initiative on the part of the city council. He joined the Mayor Austin Abraham in expressing his delight and appreciation for the organizers who helped the councilors gain better expertise in their field of work.

He said this training session is aimed to sensitize Councilors on the purpose of the Public Procurement Act and its requirements.

Pule also added that the training will also touch on how the new act affect procurement at all its stages. He pointed out that it is vital to understand the procurement process more so that it has new improved requirements to be followed.

The training workshop was facilitated by Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) officers being: Legal Officer Mr Letlhogonolo Moremi, and Procurement Specialists Mr Onalethata Dipatane and Ms Gofaone Awich.

The Gaborone City Council shared some glimpses from the one day workshop on their social media account. Notably, the workshop was attended by a number of important experts in the Public Procurement Act and the councilors who got trained in the various aspects of the new act.
