Gaborone Mayor, Austin Abraham insisted to the city’s people that “it is time to rally and support mothers in entrepreneurship and stimulate self-sufficiency in women.”
Mayor Abraham made these remarks at the 3rd Annual Moms in Business Africa Pop-up Market. The initiative attracted scores of women entrepreneurs and mothers. They got the opportunity to bring their offerings to the space and promote themselves in a sea of other businesswomen.
The 3rd Annual Moms in Business Africa Pop-up Market was held under the theme: ‘Empowering self-sufficiency and integrated regional markets to alleviate woman and child poverty’,
The City Mayor appreciated the organizers for being an agent of change as they provided women entrepreneurs a space to display their goods and services.
Austin Abraham pointed out that the event is a remarkable opportunity for the mothers of Botswana.
The pop-up market gave the attendants an opportunity to:
- Network
- Collaborate
- Generate revenue,
- Stimulate Self-Sufficiency
- Promote entrepreneurship in communities.
He acknowledged that entrepreneurship is the key to economic empowerment. They added that there is no doubt in the fact that entrepreneurship is essential in job creation. It is a vital aspect of the economic and export diversification of the country.
Botswana’s important business sector stakeholders attended the 3rd Annual Moms in Business Africa Pop-up Market. Board Member/Chairperson for Moms in Business, Fhoster Manyaapelo, applauded attendants for a large turnout.
Additionally, he said he was extremely happy to see women teaming up to inspire and empower each other. He added that the whole world will be empowered when one woman is empowered.
Refilwe Mfolwe, a Consultant in Commercial and Residential interior design and refurbishments, stressed that venturing into business requires patience.
Mfolwe said a business is a calling, and one should be passionate about what they are venturing into. She stressed the importance of interpersonal skills in business as a key to growth and expansion.
