Zambia: The German Cooperation (GIZ) Zambia has donated growth monitoring equipment to the District Health Offices in Kawambwa, Mwense and Mwansabombwe Districts in Luapula Province. The donation has been done through the organization’s Food and Nutrition Security Enhanced Resilience (FANSER) project
The equipment the germany based organization has donated to the districts includes all the necessities for quality healthcare for children. The list includes:
- 252 height boards
- 226 baby weighing bags
- 226 baby weighing scales
- 142 cooking demonstration guides
- 800 posters containing nutrition messages and several other crucial donations.
The Project Advisor for GIZ FANSER Patrick Kolala said the donation is aimed at supplementing government efforts. The officials have shared that they want to improve nutrition and child health services.
Further, Kolala has extended his sincere gratitude to the stakeholders for the support rendered to the GIZ FANSER project. Several partners have been involved in supporting the organization since its inception.
The programme is active in the three districts and the organization was optimistic that the positive strides scored will be sustained for years to come.
Meanwhile, District Commissioner Godfrey Chilambwe said the government of the country and the districts have been dedicated to improving the nutrition wellbeing of all Zambians through strategic initiatives.
Fiether Chilambwe has also noted that the government has taken a multi-sectoral approach to reduce all forms of malnutrition. The organization is working particularly on eradicating stunting which has remained a public health challenge in the districts.
Bwembya Nkula, who serves as the Luapula Provincial Health Office Clinical Care Specialist also lauded the donation.
He believe that the growth monitoring equipment will enhance the quality of nutrition programmes targeting children under five years. The authorities have shared that they are dedicated to making sure the healthcare challenges can be eradicated.
He said 71 health facilities and 427 outreach sites from the three districts will benefit from the donated health equipment.
