The railway department of Ghana has completed the construction of the railway network by 98%. The Ghana Railway Development Authority toured the Tema Mpakadan Railway line to prepare to receive the new train from Poland and has commissioned the newly constructed 97km project.
The modern railway system has just been launched in Lagos, Ghana with the second biggest economy and population in West Africa. The New train systems should be developed across the capital Accra.
Reportedly, Ghana has already placed the order for twelve (12) new trains that are being assembled in Poland. Fracht FWO Polska, which is a part of the global Fracht Group, has announced the commencement of the project to deliver PESA railway rolling stock for the Ghanaian railways.

PESA (Polish Energy Storage Association) Poland will deliver trains to Ghana. Ghana’s transport sector is set for a significant upgrade as it will receive 12 new state-of-the-art trains from Polish Manufacturer PESA.
The modern trains designed by the PESA are destined for the almost completed Tema-Mpakadan standard gauge railway line, a 97 km long railway designed to improve passenger movement on Ghana’s eastern corridor.
Moreover, the project aims to link Ouagadougou to the port of Tema, promoting seamless transport between the two nations. The Ghanaian government’s inaugural standard-gauge train departed from Poland in February 2024 and arrived in Ghana in mid-March.
The Ghanaian Railway Bridge Project has been completed in the Western Region. Ghana will be heading soon towards the polls on December 07, 2024, for the general elections.
The project complements and forms part of the multi-transport system from the Tema port to the southern part of Ghana. It forms another part from Tema port to the inland port in northern Ghana.

The development work of the railway line is 98 per cent complete, and it will be completed this year, 2024.
The railway line is part of a planned 1000 km Ghana-Burkina Faso interconnectivity project connecting Ouagadougou to the Port in Tema.
At the handing-over ceremony in Poland, held last Friday, February 2, 2024, by the Polish manufacturer PESA, the CEO of the Ghana Railways Development Authority, Yaw Owusu, said that no country has developed or industrialised without a vibrant, efficient railway system.
“So Ghana, we are on our long journey, basically to ensure that we can accomplish our goal and vision to build a network of 4000 km of railway network across the country to assist us with the industrialisation agenda,” said the CEO Owusu.
He further mentioned that especially for the current President – Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whose plan is to revamp the railway system, this is such a wonderful day. It is a great milestone of achievement for the railway sector and also for the country.
The CEO added, “This will be the first time that we are bringing a standard-gauge railway system to Ghana. The original trains that we have were all narrow-gauge and so this will be the first standard-gauge rolling stock in Ghana.”
