Gold Star Kenya is commemorating the International World AIDS Day today (Friday), December 1, 2023. The Day is being celebrated in partnership with Nakuru County and USAID Tujenge Jamii Project Staff Members.

Gold Star Kenya is commemorating the International World AIDS Day today (Friday), December 1, 2023. The Day is being celebrated in partnership with Nakuru County and USAID Tujenge Jamii Project Staff Members.

Ahead of the event, National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC) hosted a candle-lighting ceremony.

The Ceremony was joined by all the partnered and host organizations in Nakuru County, Kenya. The Nakuru County Secretary, Dr. Samuel Mwaura, presided over the event.

During the event, honoured those lives which were lost to the HIV pandemic. Additionally, he hoped for strength for the victims and their families. The candles symbolized a beacon of hope and government’s dedication to fighting alongside the victims.

The government wants to ensure that no one was left behind. This is especially important for the safety of the individuals who are not able to get proper healthcare in the County.

“As we unite on World AIDS Day, we invite communities to take the lead in sub-counties to collaborate in raising awareness until we achieve a world free from HIV/AIDS challenges,” said Dr Mwaura.

Reportedly, Gold Star Kenya and Deloitte are supporting more than 110 health facilities across 11 sub-counties in Nakuru County. The aim is to increase access and demand for quality HIV prevention, care, and treatment services.

As per the Gold Star Kenya, USAID’s Tujenge Jamii Project supports strengthening the capacity of county health systems, local partners, and communities.

The Present were the County Executive Committee Member for Health, Roselyn Mungai, Chief Officers, USAID Kenya Tujenge Jamii Staff and other partners.

Reportedly, The candle-lighting Ceremony symbolized the County’s dedication to the 11,880 individuals who are still under care, ensuring no one is left behind.

Under the Governor’s guidance, Nakuru has made healthcare strides, reducing new infections from 1,332 to 1,109 in just one year.

The Candle Lighting event was supported by Woolmart Supermarket, among other partners who’ve jointly contributed to the efforts to end HIV.
