South Africa: The government of Free State Province has taken the initiative to bring several government services to the community of Jagersfontein. The officials who were part of the initiative have shared the details of the programme which was implemented in Kopanong Municipality.
The people of the Municipality have shared their appreciation towards the government for bringing the services to their doorsteps. The programme follows the Premier MaQueen’s visit to the mining town on 14 August 2024.
During this visit, the Premier of Free where she committed that government would return to provide services to the community. The municipality is part of a region with lack of crucial government based facilities.
The community had been asking the administration to take notice of the issues that the community of Jagersfontein is facing. The community wants the administration to make sure that they can find a lasting solution for the same.
During his event inspection, the Executive Mayor of Kopanong Municipality, Councillor Xolani Tseletsele, lauded the Premier for her quick response to the community’s request.
“Last week the Premier said she would bring services to Jagersfontein, and we truly appreciate that she has stood true to her word,” said Councillor Tseletsele.
According to the Executive Mayor the community of Jagersfontein truly appreciated the intervention made by government to bring services closer to their door steps.
Councillor Tseletsele reflected that further service interventions were still needed in the mining community. The community, thus needs the administration to continue to pay attention to the needs of the people.
“During my interactions with some community members, I picked up that, a lot of them have issues relating to human settlements,” said the Mayor.
“I will further engage the Premier on issues relating to housing and title challenges that continue to confront the community at large” he added
