Zambia: Children were burned in a devastating fire in Gwembe district in a tragic incident which happened on the evening of December 24th,2023.
Seven-year-old Saviour Kaunda, 20-year-old Blessing Hanjabu and three-year-old Beatrice Kaunda were among the three innocent youngsters. The fire took the lives of three innocent youngsters and left a crest on the family that can never be filled.
This devastating event unfolds that the children’s parents, Kennedy Kaunda and Royce Muswaika, were not present in the house during the fire breaking, and they went to celebrate Christmas function. Left alone, these victims met this tragedy.
Southern Province police commissioner Auxensio Daka confirmed that a fire in the house broke out around 21.30 hrs on Christmas Eve. Cloud Moses from the neighbourhood likely discovered this horrifying incident and referred the case to the law enforcement department.
The community in the Tusinke B compound are still in shock and sorrow, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the fire. Police authorities led by Commissioner Daka are working forward to unfold the case.
After the fire broke out and the neighbour got to know about it, the police and fire department workers went into the house and took the bodies of the children to the nearest hospital, Gwembe Hospital Mortuary.
The medical investigative team is investigating the impact on the bodies and will provide the family and law enforcement with vital information.
The necessity for adequate fire safety, particularly during the holiday season, was further highlighted by this tragedy. Fire departments should give the need to increase public awareness of fire safety in the nation a higher priority.
Following this terrible event, the Gwembe district is in deep sorrow over the irreversible loss of three defenceless children.
