Cape Town: The International Firefighters Day has welcomed thousands of people celebrating it at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday, May 04, 2024. The day is commemorated to honour the firefighters for their service and to remember the ones who have lost their lives while saving people or rescuing them.
City’s Fire and Rescue Service called and Cape Town answered, as thousands have turned out to celebrate International Firefighters Day.
Reportedly, the visitors at the event were able to interact with the staff and got the opportunity to have a closer look at the fire vehicles and even at the aerial support craft.
The visitors can have also got dressed up in fire gear as they see first-hand how vehicle extrication and other complex firefighting duties are undertaken. It even had a crack at some of the fitness challenge tasks.
As per the sources, the event began with a cavalcade comprising vehicles from the city Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service and also welcomed numerous neighbouring municipalities who have also attended the event.
The event was officially proceeded by the Chief Fire Officer – Clinton Manuel and Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith.
Seeing the town celebrating the festivity with so much of enthusiasm, Alderman JP Smith said, “I’m extremely happy that so many people have joined us, despite of having really grim weather. To meet and interact with these brave men and women, to see the equipment we use and to interact with that equipment many have attended the event.”
Furthermore, people present at the event have explored various things such as the extrication challenge and the toughest firefighter competition.
Alderman JP Smith has also added to his statement that they have also spent the day with the surrounding municipalities’ fire departments who are the valuable partners to them, as well as the volunteer services and the conservation services, and all those who play an incredibly valuable role on the fire line.
