South Africa: The Reaction Unit South Africa arrested an intoxicated E-Hailing service provider after he was suspected to be involved in an accident. The arrest was made after the drunk driver fled the scene of a collision that occurred in Mountview KZN Â on Saturday.
The accident happened in the morning hours of the day and involved the  white Toyota Etios and a blue VW Polo. The Etios hit the Polo Vehicle in the back, leading the driver of the latter vehicle to come out and confront the other.
The driver wanted to exchange their details so that the situation can be resolved mutually. However, when the VW Polo driver stopped to confront him, the Toyota Etios sped off. The VW Polo pursued the vehicle to Spring Road in Tea Estate – KZN where it came to a stop.
Two passengers exited the car and fled on foot. The driver of the blue VW Polo called the members of the Reaction Unit at approximately 10:03. According to the caller, the driver of a white Toyota Etios rear ended his vehicle at the Mountview KZN.
He informd the Reaction Unit about the actions that he had taken in order to make sure that the driver of the Toyota Etios could not escape. The Reaction officers were dispatched to the scene
On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered that the driver of the Toyota Etios was heavily intoxicated. He informed Officers that he is a service provider for an E-Hailing service. Â He was placed under arrest by Police and detained at the Verulam SAPS.
The further investigation into the matter will be carried out by the south Africa Police Service and the driver will be charged with Driving Under Influence. The officials have shared that the collission did not result in any major injuries.
However, the people of the country have suggested that the driver shold be given a strict punishment. Some social media users have said that a strict conseqence will discourage the people from drinking and driving.
Driving under the influence not only puts the life of the driver at risk, but also poses a threat to the safety of other roadusers.
