A photograph of a kid from Ghana is going viral on the internet and surprisingly, it has raised thousands of dollars as funds from internet users. The kid in the photograph is identified as ‘Jake’ who has represented the idea of the photographer ‘Solomon Adufah’

Adufah is a young man who is studying arts in University of Illinois USA. In 2015, the arts student came back to his hometown in Ghana for the project ‘Homeland Ghana’.

He came back with a decision to share his passion for arts in a primary school. There he found Jake and while taking arts sessions Adufah’s friend Carlos Cortes took pictures of the drawings made by the kids.

After the completion of their session, Adufah and Cortes travelled back to USA and posted hundreds of pictures on their Instagram handle that they clicked in Accra, Ghana.

What caught the attention of the people was the extremely serious face of Jake and the way he was focused while drawing. His seriousness made people curious and his photo became viral within just few hours.

Eventually, people on social media started making memes with Jake’s photograph. Considering the unexpected rising fame of Jake, photographer Adufah decided to raise funds.

He then started asking people to turn their likes into cash and urged to help for the education of the kids in Jake’s school.

Adufah’s idea was then approved by the public as he raised $2000 in just first 24 -hours. The final amount collected was $20,000.

The amount was collected with an intention to pay fees for Jake’s education and to help other kids in his village.

Notably, the children wanted necessary things that they needed in school such as school uniform, shoes and sports attire.

It is difficult for the children of Ghana to do their homework at night because of the lack of consistent electricity.

The photographers have promised to gift an alternative generator during the power outage. They have also mentioned that the school they covered in the Homeland Ghana project lack clean sanitary water, sports equipment, sustainable toilets, new desks, tables and chairs.

It was a great initiative by photographer friends Adufah and Cortes that made the Homeland Ghana project successful, Indeed!
