The police force of the Copperbelt province has received the reports of a woman from Kalulushi district committing suicide after argument

Zambia: The police force of the Copperbelt province has received reports of a death by suicide. The investigators revealed that a 35-year-old woman had died after committing suicide.

The reason for the unfortunate action has been revealed as a marital dispute. The victim was a resident of the Kalulushi district.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the development in a statement to the media in Kalulushi. He also identified the deceased as Ethel Mwansa of house number 189 South Kalengwa.

The Police Commanders shared some details about the incident in the said media statement. According to the preliminary investigations that are currently ongoing in the district, Mwansa committed suicide by hanging herself with a chitenge material.

Her body was found hanging on a rafter in her bedroom after she argued with her husband. Suicide after arguments with family members/friends has become a regular occurrence for the various regions of Zambia.

The healthcare stakeholders believe that this may suggest a declining focus on mental health and self-esteem challenges.

Commander Mweemba says the brief facts of the matter are that the deceased who was married to Fred Mwansa. He works at Kagem mine. He came back home on Friday, February 16, 2024 in the evening and did not find his wife as she was working at a guest house called Pana Eugene.

He explained that before reaching home, the husband was told by someone that when he was at Kagem, his wife was found with another man.

Mweemba said the husband then went home and told his wife that he was going to marry another woman and they started exchanging words in the house.

He says as they were quarreling their 7-year-old daughter rushed to inform her auntie who came home and found that the husband was not there.

He said when she entered the house, she found that her sister had hung herself using a chitenge material in the bedroom, in a standing position with a protruding tongue with no visible injuries.

Copperbelt Province Commanding officer Mweemba said the body was taken to Kalulushi General Hospital where she was certified dead.
