Kenya: Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Ababu Namwamba sent the athlete Dahir Abdikadir to Kisumu. He is representing Kenya at the CECAFA U-18 Championships. The sporting tournament will begin on Saturday, November 25, 2023.
The cabinet secretary met Dahir at the International Airport of Kenya and encouraged him to deliver a stellar performance. He also walked the young sportsperson to the aeroplane, which will take him to CECAFA U-18 Championships.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs shared the images from the meeting and interaction between the Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba on their social media account. The aim of the post was to showcase the Ministry’s commitment to support the talented youth of the country.
The representative of Kenya at the championship, Dahir is a 17 years old goalkeeper from Bula Pesa Mandera County. He is one of the top talents to emerge from the just concluded Regional Playoffs in Nyeri County.
The form two student hails from the St. Anthonys Boys High School in Kitale. He benefitted from a robust scouting network dispatched by the Ministry. The aim of the scouting network is to pick the most remarkable talents from the various regions.
The scouting network that discovered the young sportsman included former Internationals:
Allan Wanga,
Musa Otieno,
Winna Shilavula
Denis Onyango
among others.
The scouting team has been observing the sports tournaments that are being hosted across the country to pick out the best players in sports. These players are given the essential training and support to make them ready to represent kenya in sports events across the globe.
