Kenya: Serial killing suspect is now arrested, after the recovery of bodies, found in quarry. The bodies were discovered by the local police in Nairobi and said that on Monday he confessed to killing 42 women including his wife.
The suspect himself confessed that he killed 42 women and dumped their remains at the quarry. A huge crowd gathered to watch the remains which were retrieved.
Police of Nairobi said that Collins Jumaisi, aged 33, lives near the quarry in Mukuru neighbourhood, located in the south of the capital and was arrested early on Monday, July 15, 2024.
The acting head of police – Douglas Kanja Kirocho said that nine bodies had been recovered so far from the quarry. Amin Mohammad – the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said, “It is crystallising that we are dealing with a serial killer, a psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life.”
Jumaisi confessed that he lured and killed women aged 42 and dumped their remains at the quarry, said Mohammed. The murders stretch back to 2022 and began with Jumaisi’s wife, with the most recent on July 11, 2024 Mohammed said in the televised statement.
At Jumaisi’s home, Police reported that they found several cell phones along with identity cards and a machete they believed was used to cut up the victims, industrial rubber gloves, rolls of Sellotape and a dozen nylon sacks similar to those in which the victims were found.
Huge crowd was gathered to watch the remains, as many of which were dismembered, being retrieved from the quarry over the weekend, with some engaged in running battles with police.
Many local residents were angered by the rumours that the bodies were linked to alleged abductions of young protesters by security forces during recent street demonstrations.
The police has so far given no indication that the remains found has nothing to do with the protests. The spokesperson of government shared a police statement on ‘X’ on Friday and confirmed that the authorities were analysing samples to identify the deceased and that investigations were under way.
Considering this an activist with the Mukuru Community Justice Centre rights group said that the most of the remains were decomposed and indicated that they had been there for some time.
Earlier, this month President William Ruto said that the reports of abductions by state agents were regrettable and that any officers found responsible would be held to account. Kenya’s police chief Japhet Koome who resigned on Friday.
