Kenya: The Kenya Forest Service Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko toured a number of forests in the Coast Conservancy. The aim of the tour is to appreciate the status of the forests of the nation at a time the Service is working hard to realize the 30% tree cover project.
The Kenya Forest Service is dedicated working towards growing of 15 billion trees in the next 10 years. The project is part of President William Ruto’s commitment to fighting the affects of climate change in Kenya.
The officials have shared that the members of the community have also extended their support to the ambitious project and initiative. The Keenya Forest service shared several images from the tour on their social media.
The Chief Conservator of Forests has shared his experience while making the tours of the forests of the conservancy. He flew over the Arabuko Sokoke and Jilore Forests in Kilifi and Buda, Gogoni Gazi and Nzombo Forests in Kwale County.
During his appreciation visit, the CCF highlighted that the forests are well conserved due to the collaboration with CFAs and other partners. He also took the time to visit Buda Forest Station where he held a meeting with staff and members of the CFA.
He encouraged them to increase their seedlings production from the current 250 thousand to at least 2 million seedlings per year. The CCF thanked the community led by the CFA for stopping charcoal burning in forests and encouraged them to increase tree growing on their farms.
CCF Alex Lemarkoko informed the officers that KFS was in the process of decentralising activities to the station level as the main implementing unit of all programmes.
The CCF was accompanied by several members of his team, including the Commandant Mohammed A. Mohammed, the DCCF for Plantations Management Andrew Soi, the Coast RFC James Mburu, the CFC for Kwale Masha Rua, Evans Maneno and Wlson Tonkei from CCF’s office as well as the CFA Chaiman Mohammed Mwangolo among others.
