Botswana: Kweneng District Council is working with the various stakeholders of the disaster management team to prepare for the memorial service which will be hosted on Thursday. The team understands the profound impact that the accident has had on the people of the country.
The families who lost their loved ones in the accidents around the easter holidays are getting all the help they can get through the administration of the country. The Kweneng District Council has started the initiative to provide grief management and grief counselling.
The Kweneng District Disaster Response Team has informed the attendants of the pending issues that must be addressed. The interaction happened during the preparatory meeting for the national memorial service.
All the districts of Botswana will come together to honour the lives of the forty-five people who died during the Easter pilgrimage trip. The officials have shared that they continue to offer support to the families of the deceased.
The officials shared glimpses from the meeting convened on Wednesday. They also shared the steps they have taken to support the country’s people who are dealing with the grief.
As per the district council, 20 families have been provided with relief food baskets to support the journey of grief. Further, the people of the district who are dealing with pressing situations emanating from the tragic accident have been assured of their support.
The organization will also present 32 special packages to children under 5 years of age across all the affected families. The administration has continued to prioritize the mental health of the affected families and pledged to support them.
The officials have shared that they have started an intense grief therapy started today to respond to the mental health needs at individual, family and group levels. The officials have revealed that 40 individuals from the affected families have received therapy.
Further 51 individuals were given group counselling sessions under the council’s efforts to continue to support the grieving families.
