South Africa: KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education hosted the 2024 ABC Motsepe SASCE Competition on Monday. The event is being hosted in collaboration with ABC Motsepe under the theme “Celebrating 30 years of Democracy.”
The ABC Motsepe SASCE is a school enrichments programmes co-ordinated by the Department of Basic Education. The aim of the event is to promote unity in diversity, national reconciliation, positive values, new South-African national identity.
They want to promote the values of social transformation and social cohesion among the school-going South African youth.
During the event, the Department of Education wants to promote choral music as a genre that has rich history in the community. The members of the department believe that choral music can influence behavioural change.
Further aim of the event was to identify and nurture young talent and promote the love for music and dance. On Saturday, the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra participated in the rehearsals and performance of the Solo, Tenor Solo, Mezzo Soprano, Bass Solo and Septet categories at UKZN Jubilee Hall.
HOD Nkosinathi Ngcobo delivered a brief address at the event. He appreciated the patriotic gesture and honoured the organisers for this wonderful occasion.
Further, he also pledged to join the winners at the National level. HOD Ngcobo further said “I am truly grateful to be part of this history in-the-making and to participate in this official music competition and to ensure this programme keeps growing.
I would not place myself anywhere else as this is a very important occasion in the Department, displaying our children’s talent. We would really like to thank our educators for the unwavering dedication and commitment in taking care of this programme.
The great thing about this well organised musical programme is that it instils discipline in our children. Previously, we used to acknowledge sports programme but now we can see that music is taking a good shape”.
Furthermore, HOD congratulated all schools that are going to represent us in National level. “Sports Art and Culture programmes aim to assist in curriculum development” said HOD Ngcobo. .
