South Africa: KwaZulu-Natal Member of the executive council for Education Hlomuka, visited Amanzimtoti Primary School. He was at the time accompanied by the members of the Education Office of the uMlazi District
The visit from the MEC came after schools reopened for the second term, on May 6, 2025. The office of the KZN MEC for education and the uMlazi District visited the school for an oversight visit.
The aim of the visit is to make sure that the school is functioning at the right standards and managed well by the leadership.
The team from uMlazi District was led by Busi Mahlambi, the District Director, and included staff from the Office of the MEC. Director Dr Ngogi Mahaye guided the MEC’s team, alongside Media Liaison Officer Mr Mlungisi Mtshali from the MEC’s office.
This oversight visit aims to offer support throughout the Province of KwaZulu-Natal and reaffirms the Department’s dedication in delivering quality teaching and learning. The department added that this is also on a mission to help schools achieve their goal of 95% pass in the 2025 NSC Examinations.
During the session, the School Principal, Tracey Lynn Vorster, spoke about the school’s profile with the guests.
The uMlazi District Director, Mrs Busi Mahlambi, clarified the meeting’s objective, stating, “This is the MEC’s programme and the MEC has highly invested in ensuring quality education, making certain that no learner is left behind.” It is for this reason that we have such a programme today.
Amanzimtoti Primary School is a good and high-achieving school in the Amanzimtoti Circuit where students score well. The MEC wants to verify that the school is adequately staffed and equipped to facilitate effective teaching and learning.
MEC for Education in KwaZulu Natal Sipho Hlomuka and Head of Department Nkosinathi Ngcobo were both present at the event. The two departments have asserted that they are happy participate in this programme.
The authorities have appreciated the school authorities for their leadership and expertise in running one of the highest performing school.
