KZN MEC Mbali Frazer meets with PSA leaders in Durban

KwaZulu Natal: KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education, Mbali Frazer, together with the Top Management led by HOD Nkosinathi Ngcobo, met with the KZN provincial leadership of PSA on 14 November 2023, at Dokkies, in Durban.

The meeting was convened as part of a series of engagements between MEC Frazer and all stakeholders within the education sector. These engagements are meant to strengthen working relations between the department and stakeholders.

During the meeting, the Department tabled plans to address the current challenges, including plans for transferring funds to affected schools, payment of 1.5% pay progression, increment for the Grade R Practitioners, and progress towards converting 500 Grade R practitioners to permanent status.

PSA was also taken into confidence that the Department is working tirelessly to improve the work environment so that it’s conducive for all the employees of the KZN Department of Education.

The PSA leadership further committed to bringing issues that the national government is meant to address to the national negotiations platform so that they garner the attention of the relevant authorities.

Both MEC Frazer and PSA leadership expressed satisfaction about the nature of engagements.

“Your input and feedback are essential for us to make informed decisions that benefit both the education sector and the dedicated individuals who contribute to its success,” said MEC Frazer.

On the same day, Mbali Frazer, met with the KZN provincial leadership of NEHAWU today, 14 November 2023, at Dokkies in Durban.

MEC Frazer convened this meeting as part of her series of engagements with stakeholders within the education sector. The aim of these meetings is to strengthen relations with all stakeholders and discuss issues affecting the sector.

NEHAWU leadership appreciated the opportunity to engage with MEC Frazer and the management adding that the meeting was long overdue. MEC Frazer expressed gratitude with the level of engagements and the frankness of NEHAWU when they raised issues in the best interest of the education sector.

“As we move forward, let us remember our shared goal, which is providing quality education to our learners. Our success as an education system depends on the strength of our collaboration and the understanding that we are all working towards a common purpose,” said MEC Frazer.
