South Africa: The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, will lead the Provincial Government’s annual World AIDS Day Commemoration programme on Thursday, 01 December 2022, at the Vanjazi Sports Ground, in Dannhauser under the Amajuba District Municipality.
Premier Dube-Ncube will reflect on the threat posed by the HIV/AIDS pandemic and programmes to ensure equal access to treatment.
This year’s World AIDS Day will be held under the theme: “ *Equalize and Integrate to End AIDS* ”.
The World Health Organisation is calling on global leaders and citizens to boldly recognize and address the inequalities which are holding back progress in ending AIDS; and equalize access to important HIV services, particularly for key populations, for example, men who have sex with men, transgender people, people who use drugs, sex workers, prisoners as well as migrants and their partners.
The province of KwaZulu-Natal has a large HIV/AIDS, TB and Sexually Transmitted infections burden in the country and remains the epicentre of the HIV disease.
Over the last four decades, much progress has been achieved in creating awareness about HIV, promoting prevention, and saving lives through the delivery of life-saving medication.
The Provincial Government working together with civil society organizations and the private sector, has made significant strides to turn the tide against HIV, AIDS and TB.
The Premier will be joined by Members of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Cabinet at the commemoration in the Amajuba District. This will be followed by similar campaigns in all 10 Districts of our province. The MEC Champions, in line with the Operation Sukuma Sakhe District Development Model, will lead the campaigns in their respective Districts.
This occasion will also see the KZN Department of Health unveil its new, rebranded HIV/AIDS messaging, whose objective is to capture the attention of young people.
